Reforestation Efforts at KONPAY
In addition to being the hub of KONPAY's youth and volunteer programs, it is also home to a tree nursery which starts, nurtures and grows multiple varieties of locally endemic fruit trees. The tree nursery forms an integral component in the sensitization of the local population, and it represents yet another part of the holistic approach KONPAY applies in environmental, health, and agricultural work.
This past March 2013, a delegation of CDi - Community Development International partnered with KONPAY and the JDS Youth to plant a total of 1,000 trees in the surrounding areas of Habitat by the Sea. Assisted by roughly 30 youth of JDS, these trees were planted during one full day of the "Festival Plante Pyebwa".
Since operation, KONPAY has donated thousands of plants to individuals and neighboring organizations in an effort to contribute to reforestation efforts. The focus of KONPAY is to educate youth and the local population on climate change and bring awareness to what individuals can do to help reduce its harmful effects.
