Joe Duplan founded KONPAY in 2004, with the mission to support and include endeavors initiated by identified communities and groups
The Youth Program JDS (Youth for the Development of Cyvadier) emerges to address the environmental issues being faced by the community of Cyvadier. |
2005
|
Tree Nursery: 60,000 seedlings produced; slated for distribution in an effort to ameliorate the dire situation that Haiti and immediate surrounding communities are faced with.
The creation of KNAA (National Coalition for the Haitian Environment or Koalisyon Nasyonal pou Anviwonman Ayisyen) with a representing member in each of the 10 departments of the country. |
2006

KONPAY launches a tree planting campaign throughout the Southeast Department, particularly in Cyvadier attempting to preserve the water sources. The campaign was extended into La Vallee De Jacmel, Tesser, and La Montagne.

2008

After the flood caused by Hurricane « Gustave » KONPAY is instrumental in providing relief efforts to numerous communities such as Meyers, Cyvadier, Cap Rouge, Tesser, Cayes Jacmel, Marigot and Baie d’Oranges aiding in setting-up distributions of locally grown food.

2009

The need for a local to hold classes for the Youth of Morija Cap Rouge brought forth the construction of four classrooms for the Young students of that community.
The National School of Cyvadier with over 300 students in attendance and only three classrooms was faced with a similar dilemma; KONPAY built two additional classrooms and a kitchen to prepare the meals for the students and staff. An irrigation canal of 3 kilometers in length connecting the pre-existing water canal to support Farmers that were experiencing drought during the dry season in the area of Zebable (Cyvadier) is completed. KONPAY identified the need for a Latrine in Lamandou (Cyvadier), in collaboration with SOIL a Compost Latrine was erected for communal use. With support from the Group Trees, Water, People KONPAY begins to tackle research and development of the Alternative Fuel Program |
2010

The devastating earthquake that rocked Haiti, in January of 2010 brought forth an extremely busy year for KONPAY with the coordination of the first medical team (The Delaware Angels) to arrive on the ground to provide much needed medical care.
15 transitional homes are built in Cyvadier and downtown Jacmel in the worst hit neighborhood; 400 damaged homes are repaired and 100 water filters donated by the Pure Water organization are distributed together with mosquito nets, food and feminine products in the respective communities. A water cistern with a capacity to hold 20,000 gallons is constructed for water catchment in Cap Rouge along with a tree nursery and establishing as well a Farmer-to-Farmer program, with 200 beneficiaries (150 women and 50 men). A distribution of 20,000 Merengua seeds is executed in La Montagne to continue the effort to reforest the communities and provide them with good nutritious legumes with a high content of vitamins. |
2011

In keeping with the tradition of establishing a holistic program with the partners we work with, a water cistern and a hand washing station is built at National School of Cyvadier to curb the Cholera epidemic in collaboration with THI and GVN.
Due to the overwhelming demands of Casek Daniel Gay, the director and the teachers of the school, we return to Cap Rouge to construct a Compost Latrine which is going to produce fertilizers for the tree nursery and the Farmer to Farmer Program. In July of 2011 an industrial szie customized clean cook stove is installed in Z'Orange with support from the Clinton Foundation, KPMG, K&Y, the Bermuda Ball Hockey Association, and Friends of Bermuda. Throughout the summer and fall of 2011, KONPAY presents its Alternative Charcoal & Clean Cook Stoves Program at exhibitions, fairs, seminars and events. Growing exposure generates interest from various groups, organizations, and local officials. Towards the end of 2011, 20 clean cook stoves are distributed to 20 families of JDS Youth members. JDS had been instrumental in enhancing the model of stove, in building increased production capacity and efficiency, and in partiicpating hands-on with field testing, evaluation, and promotion. |
2012

During the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All, work on expanding the Alternative Charcoal & Clean Cookstove Program continues. Support and interest is generated among partners in the United States and the program is endorsed by the Board of the United Nations Association of Southern NY and its "Energy Project".
In April of 2012 KONPAY partners with CDi - Community Development International to construct a dry composting latrine in Seguin. This is the third of its kind constrcuted by KONPAY and shall serve as a demonstration model and a stepping stone towards geographical expansion of the program. |
2013

KONPAY implements 3 reforestation campaigns in the areas of Cyvadier, La Valle, and Bodwin. Project begins with capacity building for higher production, which includes acquiring equipment and preparation of physical space.
KONPAY collaborates with Welt Hunger Hilfe to distribute stoves in Marbial to 30 families. Training is held, enabling families to fabricate their own briquettes. |
2014

Clean Cookstove production progresses into full-fledged production of stoves and briquettes with 9 employees.
KONPAY collaborates with Aida, working with schools in Raymond and Cayes Jacmel on charcoal production, stove distribution, and nutritional training. KONPAY partners with Cesal working with merchants in Fond Verettes distributing stoves and teaching people how to use them. Kentucky University conducts 3 tests, 2 in Jacmel and 1 in Leoganne, to find out how hot the briquettes get and how fast food cooks on the stoves. A 47 page report is created, which enables KONPAY to make modifications that make stoves more desirable to consumers in Haiti. KONPAY conducts reforestation campaign in the hills of Cyvadier where trees are planted on top of water sources in an effort to protect them. KONPAY implements a Chikungunya Virus campaign in Cyvadier, organizing a community clean-up of local canals. |
