About KONPAY
KONPAY (Konbit Pou Ayiti) “Working Together for Haiti,” was founded and registered as a non-profit organization with the Haitian Ministry of Social Affairs in 2004 by Joe Duplan, along with a group of fellow Haitians who envisioned social and environmental progress for Haiti. Based in Cyvadier, the South East Department of Haiti, KONPAY addresses the communities’ hardships and struggles not just in emergency assistance, but also with a long-term strategic vision targeting environmental degradation and unsustainable agricultural practices. The organizational approach is grassroots based, integrating the community by empowering youth and women through numerous programs and diverse educational services. Since the beginning, the organization has been dedicated to promoting Haiti’s social and economic progress with a holistic strategy to work with the environment and agriculture.
Empowerment of Haitian youth to spearhead reforestation efforts and sustainable agricultural practices will lead to greater awareness of environmental protection and restoration. Supporting and organizing rural Haitian farmers (especially women) by providing them tools, seeds, training, and micro-finance will lead to improved productivity, sustainability, and food security in rural agrarian communities. In addition, by creating opportunities for localized economic activity while implementing best practices to protect and preserve the resources of the land, poverty can be ameliorated, livelihoods can be improved, and long-lasting change can be initiated.
KONPAY believes that the answer to a brighter Haiti is to introduce innovative and green alternatives that are culturally appropriate.
